When you think country music, Nashville comes to mind. Richard Rende of Studio 61 Music Publishing would like to change that for country fans living in Arizona. Tuesday, November 14th, 2017 Rende partnered with local country artist Shari Rowe to co host a Songwriter Showcase at Dierks Bentley’s Whiskey Row in Tempe, AZ.
Rowe was joined by local artists Jeordie, Ray Herndon, Drew Cooper, and Steven Bowman. The event took place on the patio and was “in the round.” One at a time, each artist took turns playing their original music. At the end, the artists came together to sing “Fishing in the Dark” by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. This intimate experience allows singer/songwriters to share their story behind the lyrics. A songwriter showcase which mimics that of the iconic Bluebird Cafe in Nashville, Tennessee.
Rende has strong ties to Nashville. He is a member of the NSAI – Nashville Songwriters Association International and often frequents Nashville songwriter events. His vision of bringing Nashville to the Desert is helping create a writer’s scene for local artists. After Tuesday night, it’s evident Arizona has the talent to do so! Plans are already in the works for the next Songwriter Showcase. Stay tuned.
For those unable to attend, the event was live streamed on Facebook by Country Music in AZ and Arizona Originals watch the video below.
